DNA
Have you ever wondered how DNA was discovered. If not I will be informing you how it was found, How it works and about the double helix.

In 1869 a swiss doctor Johann Friedrich Miescher was studying white blood cells from pus-soaked bandages. He isolated the nuclei of these cells. When he analyzed the chemicals inside the nuclein he discovered a new substance called ( Deoxyribonucleic acid ) DNA for short. Scientists knew genes are found inside the nucleus. So people were wondering if nuclein was made of DNA ? Despite Johann Friedrich miescher findings, few scientists thought the findings were true. Most scientist felt that the genetic material might not of came from the DNA but in the substances called proteins. It wasn't until 1944 that canadian-born scientist Oswald Avery finally proved that DNA - not proteins carried the cell's genetic instructions.
Fact: DNA is an extremely long molecule.

Our cells contain a set of operating instructions in the form of deoxyribonucleic acid ( DNA ) The DNA in everyone's body has the same structure. We have two long strands that wind around each other to form a double helix ( or a spiral ) Dna holds the coded instructions called genes. Genes are needed to build and run cells. It can also copy itself, making sure that instructions are passed through it accurately when the cells are divided.

Earlier I have talked about DNA and a little bit about genes, which carry our features from one generation to the next are made of DNA. The DNA in genes control the production of substance called proteins. These build our bodies and run our cells, THe mechanism by which DNA coded message is used to make proteins in the cells of living things
