Sea Turtles
L.G: To explain how something happens
Purpose: To explain how the sea turtle grows into a adult.
Did you know that sea turtles were around for 150,oo,oo year’s. They are now a threatened species. Human interference is harming 8 species of sea turtle’s. Only 2% survive with human interference. Sea turtles have overcome the odds in their life. It would be tragic to lose them now.
Firstly the adult female finds a place up high on the beach to dig her nesting hole. She lay’s 50-1000 white leathery, ping pong shaped eggs a year. Then she covers the nesting hole and leaves. It takes about 6 weeks for the eggs to hatch.
After that the baby sea turtles rush towards the sea with predators among them such as seagulls, raccoons and crabs. Only half of the baby sea turtles make it to the ocean. Now they have bigger predators such as bull sharks, tiger sharks, white sharks and occasionally a killer whale.
Thirdly as they start to grow they face dangers such as waves , currents, birds, (When they come up to breath) fish, dolphins and sharks. When they grow up they can be the size of a dinner plate to a dinner table. It takes about 10 years to grow up to that size. They are more safe when they grow up. About 10% survive from being in a egg to this stage.
Penultimately it takes approximately 20 years for female sea turtles to start breeding. The female swims to the beach to find a high place on the beach to lay her eggs. Sea turtles can live up to 80 years. This is how they die from eggs to adulthood. 1000 eggs are layed a year, 800 hatch, 400 make it to the water, 200 proceed to adulthood, 20 make it to the breeding age without human interference and 2 survive to the breeding age with human interference
In conclusion I believe that we should start caring about or environment. Sea turtles are a miracle so help save them.
